- Out-Patient Facility: Outpatient facility is located on the 3rd floor of OPD block. It has its own pharmacy counter which makes it easy for patients to get their children examined and collect medicines.
- Inpatient Facility: Ward No. 7 and 8 are two pediatric wards with a combined bed strength of 50 patients.
- NICU: Newborn nursery is functioning at the second floor in MCH block. It is a Level II B Nursery with a strength of 20 beds including a step-down unit.

- Post Natal Ward: All newborn babies delivered in SDNH are kept in postnatal wards with their mothers. They are screened for neonatal problems/diseases and subsequently managed in the nursery if required.
- Labor Room: Round-the-clock neonatal resuscitation services are provided in the labor room for all high-risk deliveries. Sick newborns are stabilized until they can be shifted to the motherβs side in the postnatal ward or transferred to the nursery for ongoing treatment.
- ICU: Whenever sick children more than 5 years of age require intensive monitoring and treatment, ICU facility is utilized where they are managed under support and supervision of a Senior Anesthetist. Subsequent step-down care is ensured in the Pediatric ward.
- Emergency Care: Emergency care is given to patients reporting to the hospital in Casualty. Sick children are kept for observation and appropriately treated and managed by E.M.O. (Pediatrics) under the supervision of a specialist.
- Thalassemia Day Care Center: Thalassemia children are admitted for regular blood transfusion and chelation therapy. A total of 27 Thalassemia children are registered with the department for regular blood transfusion. This service is provided with active support and supervision of the Transfusion Medicine Officer. Continuous support from the National Thalassemia Welfare Society has also been beneficial.
- Nutritional Rehabilitation & Counseling (NRC) Centre: Anthropometry of all children under 5 years attending OPD is done and appropriate nutritional advice is given. Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) cases are identified and treated as per SAM protocol. Separate beds are allocated in the ward for their management.
- High Risk Follow-up Clinic & Early Intervention Clinic: Conducted every Friday for children with developmental delay or those at high risk such as birth asphyxia, prematurity, and hyperbilirubinemia. Early intervention and developmental stimulation help children reach their full potential.
- Pediatric Asthma Clinic: Held every Thursday. Regular patient and family education is provided. The hospital supplies inhalers, spacer devices, and baby masks, improving compliance and preventing repeated relapses.
- Well Baby / High Risk Clinic: Conducted every Wednesday in Room No. 406/407. Newborns discharged from NICU/PNC attend follow-up for growth and developmental monitoring. Guidance on exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding is provided. A total of 1833 infants were followed up from January 2025 to December 2025.
- JSSK Scheme (Launched April 2025): Under this scheme, diagnostic and therapeutic facilities are provided to pregnant women and children less than 1 year of age. From April 2025 to December 2025, 105 children received diagnostic facilities and 63 children received therapeutic facilities.
- Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Centre: IYCF center to promote breast feeding is functioning in the hospital. Mother in the OPD & Post Natal Ward are counseled & supported to breast feed their babies. Mothers of children under 5 years are also advised about healthy feeding practices to reduce malnutrition. Healthy feeding practices are further promoted by imparting health education through audio visual aids in the PNC & OPD areas.
- A.F.P. & Measles Surveillance: All case of suspected AFP and Measles, are admitted in the pediatric ward and reported to the nodal agency.
- Active participation in Pulse polio immunization and Mission Indradhanush: Medical and Para-medical staff actively participated in the campaign on all NID days as well as in house-to-house immunization. A centre for immunization is regularly set up in SDNH on NIDs. Mission Indradhanush is a health mission of government of India aimed to ensure full immunization of children up to two years and pregnant women.
- Immunization:- where babies are immunized against vaccine preventable disease as per Delhi Govt. schedule.
- New Born Vaccination:- All newborns, delivered in the hospital, are given BCG, zero dose of OPV and Hepatitis B 1st dose before discharge from the Post Natal Wards as per the recommendation (Delhi Govt. Immunization schedule).

- Regular Perinatal Mortality & Death Review Meetings: Regular Perinatal Mortality Meetings and Death Review Meetings are conducted to identify gaps and discuss strategies to improve child care services in the department. Under-five year death audits are carried out on a regular basis.
- Intensified Diarrhea Control Month (IDCM): Intensified Diarrhea Control Month was observed from August 2025 to September 2025. Activities included Zoom meetings, Webex meetings, public lectures, and counseling of mothers on the use and benefits of ORS. The general public was educated about the importance of ORS in preventing diarrheal deaths.
- World Breastfeeding Week: World Breastfeeding Week was celebrated from 1st to 7th August 2025. Public health lectures on the benefits of breastfeeding were delivered by Pediatric and Obstetrics & Gynecology doctors in OPDs and hospital wards.
- DNB Course in Pediatrics: The DNB course in the Pediatric Department was started w.e.f. July 2016. Three Primary and three Secondary DNB seats have been allotted to the Pediatric Department of SDNH by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). Regular academic activities are conducted as per the NBE curriculum. One DNB student submitted their research work to NBE this year, and five students appeared for the NBE examination. Results are awaited.
- NICU Accreditation: The NICU of the Pediatric Department has been accorded Level II-B accreditation by the National Neonatology Forum.
The Department carries on academic activities on regular basis especially for benefit of Resident Doctors. With the Start of DNB Programme teaching activity for DNB Students is done on a regular basis from September 2016. Topics related to the neonatology & general pediatrics, infection and nutrition were discussed. We are having regular classes along with seminar and journal club.
