Ophthalmology Department
The Department of Ophthalmology is a well-established clinical and academic unit committed to providing comprehensive, ethical, and patient-centered eye care services. The department caters to a large and diverse patient population, offering preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative ophthalmic services. With an emphasis on providing good clinical care, teaching, and research, the department strives to keep pace with advancements in ophthalmic science and technology.
The department is equipped with infrastructure to support quality ophthalmic care. Facilities include a well-organized outpatient department, dedicated procedure and investigation rooms, seminar room with interactive smart boards, and access to minor operation theatres and major operation theatres with advanced surgical equipment. The department is supported by essential diagnostic facilities such as digital vision boards, slit lamps, autorefractometer, non-contact tonometer, ultrasound A scan imaging, and direct and indirect ophthalmoscopes, ensuring accurate diagnosis and effective management of eye diseases.
A wide range of ophthalmic services are provided, including comprehensive eye examinations, cataract evaluation and surgery, glaucoma management, diagnostic retina services, corneal and external eye disease management, paediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplasty, and refractive services. Preventive and screening services are also undertaken to promote early detection of eye diseases.
There are five senior faculty members, one senior resident and three DNB residents at present. The details of the faculty members are given below.

The Ophthalmology Outpatient Department functions on all working days, with structured clinics for general ophthalmology and subspecialty services. Refraction services are provided daily. Dedicated days are allotted for specific clinics such as glaucoma, retina, and cornea and the time slot is between 12pm to 2pm.

The department promotes clinical and academic research in various subspecialties of ophthalmology. Regular academic activities ensure all round professional development of trainees.

Postgraduate teaching is conducted through lectures, seminars, case discussions, journal clubs, and hands-on clinical and surgical training. Residents receive supervised exposure to outpatient services, operation theatres, referral cases, and emergency care, ensuring comprehensive training in all aspects of ophthalmology.
The Department of Ophthalmology has achieved several milestones in patient care, academics, and research. Faculty members have received recognition for academic excellence and contributions to ophthalmology. The department has successfully participated in scientific conferences, workshops, and outreach programs, and continues to play a role in delivering quality eye care and academic activities. One senior doctor of the department received training in R P Centre (AIIMS) on medical retina under the NPCB scheme for a period of three months.
