Dental Department

    The Dental Department at Swami Dayanand Hospital is dedicated to providing comprehensive oral healthcare with an emphasis on both preventive and curative dentistry. Along with the diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases, the department actively promotes oral hygiene practices, particularly correct tooth-brushing techniques, to prevent common dental problems such as dental caries and periodontal diseases.

    Patients are routinely educated about the importance of brushing twice daily, appropriate toothbrush selection, and proper use of toothpaste. In addition, guidance is provided on the use of adjunct oral hygiene aids such as water flossers for effective interdental cleaning and gum massage to improve gingival health and circulation. Through patient counseling and demonstrations, the department aims to improve oral health awareness and reduce the burden of preventable dental conditions in the community.

    The Department is well-structured and adequately equipped to provide efficient and top notch dental care. The department is furnished with three dental chairs, allowing multiple patients to be examined and treated simultaneously. We also have a fully functioning autoclave machine, UV chamber and ultrasonic cleanser for effective disinfection and sterilisation maintenance. We have high end digital technological tools that aid in quicker diagnosis treatment & patient education- RVG( radiovisiography) , Intraoral camera, Endomotor, Laser and cautery.

    It includes a separate OPD area for patient consultation and diagnosis, a designated waiting area for patient comfort, and a dedicated sterilization area to ensure proper infection control and instrument safety. Standard sterilization protocols are strictly followed. The overall infrastructure supports smooth patient flow, effective treatment delivery, and maintenance of hygiene standards within the department.

    We provide a comprehensive preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic oral healthcare services to patients of all age groups. The department focuses on promoting oral hygiene awareness along with delivering quality dental treatment.

    The services offered include routine dental check-ups, oral prophylaxis (scaling and polishing), dental restorations (fillings), management of dental caries, and treatment of gum diseases. Basic endodontic procedures, including root canal treatment, are provided to preserve natural teeth wherever possible.

    The department also offers tooth extraction services, including surgical extractions,simple extractions with emphasis on atraumatic techniques and patient comfort. Preventive services such as oral hygiene instructions, demonstration of proper brushing techniques, use of water flossers, and gum massage are routinely advised to the patients.

    Patients are guided regarding diet counseling, tobacco cessation, and maintenance of overall oral health. The department ensures adherence to sterilization and infection control protocols while delivering all dental services.

    Dr. Maitreyee is the Head of the Department. The dental department is supported by a dedicated and competent team comprising two Junior Residents, two Honorary junior residents , one Dental Hygienist,one Dental Nurse and one dental aaya. The team works collaboratively to ensure efficient patient care, comprehensive clinical services, and smooth conduct of academic and training activities.

    The Dental OPD functions daily from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, during which patients are examined, diagnosed, and treatment plans are formulated wherein side by side patient treatment procedures are performed by doctors on their clinical duty starting from 9:00 AM onwards ensuring uninterrupted and efficient dental services along with clinical procedures are also being performed from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM by everyone.

    The department caters to a high patient load with an average of approximately 150 patients per day, reflecting the accessibility, trust, and efficiency of the dental services provided. Patients are attended to in a systematic manner to ensure timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and comprehensive oral health counseling.

    Academic activities are regularly conducted to ensure continuous learning and skill enhancement.

  • Every Friday, new and important cases are discussed among the faculty and staff.
  • Presentations on specific pre-decided topics are given to enhance clinical knowledge and encourage academics.
  • In addition, nukkad nataks (street plays) are organized on various national and international health days to promote oral health awareness among the patients and enhance residents communication skills.

    During the current year, the department has witnessed significant academic and clinical growth. A wide range of new and advanced procedures were successfully performed, including apicectomy procedures, wherein residents actively participated and performed these procedures under supervision.

    In addition, several complicated impaction cases were managed effectively, including cases associated with facial space infections and other complex oral and maxillofacial conditions like facial traumas. The successful management of such challenging cases has substantially enhanced the clinical confidence, surgical skills, and decision-making abilities of doctors, contributing positively to their overall professional development.
