Blood Bank ANC & Emergency Lab

    The Blood centre of this Hospital is recognized by the State Blood Transfusion Council headed by Chief Secretary, Govt. of NCT, Delhi & is under process of renewal of license by the Drug Controller Authority vide No. 1334/90. It is mandatory for the blood centre to comply with all the provision of the Drugs and Cosmetic Act 1945 of the Govt. of India. The blood bank SDNH is interacting with its mother Recognized Blood Transfusion centre(RBTC) EAST (GTBH) and other RBTC in the NCR of Delhi to standardize various aspects like, sharing information to meet therequirement of blood /specific blood component of its patients.

    The blood centre provides round the clock transfusion service of safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components to meet the life saving requirement of patients admitted to the hospital in emergency I.C.U., Labor room and various wards. Blood units are also supplied to outside hospital after getting request from other licensed blood banks and Pvt Nursing Homes. It is also responsible for various blood centre activities including:-

  • Screening and recruitment of healthy blood donors
  • Collection and storage of blood & facility of component separation like packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC), FFP, Platelets Concentrate (PC),and Platelet and Plasma by Aphaeresis.
  • Pre-transfusion screening of transfusion transmissible infections (TTI) e.g. HIVI &II, HBSAg. HCV.Syphilis, Malaria
  • Detection of any abnormal antibodies in the donated blood ( Anti body screening)
  • Compatibility testing by Blood cross match, ABO Grouping (Tests) & issue of blood units ,specific recipient blood Component ( PRBC/FFP/PC)
  • Internal and External quality control of various LAB procedures & lab tests
  • Rh grouping (Tests)
  • Coombs tests
  • Hb estimation

Despite the constraint of shortage of staff, the blood Centre organizes periodical voluntary Blood Donation camps independently & in collaboration with other organizers.

    Training for Technical Staff is held on regular basis, staff are also sent for training to other centres. 20 lab trainee from various recognized institutes are being given training per year in blood centre SDNH.

    In year 2025, 3 voluntary Blood donation camp were organized

  • To provide leukocyte depleted PRBC to patients by using leukocyte depleted Blood bags to minimize blood transfusion reactions.
  • TTI lab is using Modern technique i.e Chemiluminiscence along with ELISA to test blood units.
  • Storage capacity have been increased by procuring One Deep Refrigerator and One Blood Bank Refrigerator
  • New Thawing Bath has been installed for issuing the good quality FFP

    It is proposed to upgrade the BTS in terms of safety of blood recipients by issuing of bloodwith highest degree of compatibility. To ensure transfusion of safe blood and minimize any associated risks the blood centre plans to purchase the following in the year 2025-26/2026-27 for whole blood and blood component.
