Paediatrics Services
- All patients of Thalassemia have to be registered with Thalassemia Day Care Centre.
- Sister I/C shall call 3 to 4 patients for regular blood transfusion as per appointment on day care basis.
- Prior to admission each patient will be screened by taking weight, height and vitals like temperature, pulse rate, BP and respiratory rate by staff nurse / JR.
- Patient’s pre-transfusion sample for CBC, cross matching and KFT will be taken by JR / Staff Nurse and sent to lab & blood bank along with requisition for fresh blood (PRBC) of less than 7 days.
- After getting the CBC report and cross matched fresh blood, JR on duty will cross check and verify the blood prior to transfusion.
- Leukocyte filter will be used for blood transfusion to avoid any adverse reaction.
- Patient’s vitals will be monitored during transfusion and recorded on case sheet by resident on duty. Any adverse reaction has to be appropriately managed.
- After completion of blood transfusion, I/V cannula and blood transfusion bag will be disposed as per biomedical waste protocol.
- Discharge slip will be prepared by Resident Doctor mentioning transfusion details, investigations done and oral chelation treatment to be given.
- Appointment for next blood transfusion will be given to each patient and noted in diary/register kept with sister and marked on calendar.
- Serum Ferritin level will be done at 3 to 4 months interval.
- All adolescent patients will be screened for complications by thyroid function test and ECHO along with regular ENT & ophthalmic checkup annually.
- Registration for Pediatric OPD is done on second floor of OPD block. No registration charges are applicable for infants (less than one year of age).
- Children attending Pediatric OPD are seen in Room No. 311, 313, 314, 315, 316, 317, 318 and 319.
- Immunization is done in Room No. 310.
- All infants are screened for malnutrition and dietary counseling done in Room No. 312.
- Patients are sent for investigations to Radiology, Pathology and Biochemistry departments after requisition in HIS.
- As far as possible medicines should be prescribed from Hospital Pharmacy.
- All doctors involved in OPD care are required to maintain records of modifiable diseases.
- Efforts should be made to maintain cordial relations with patients.
